Greta came to live with us in 2004 when she was 9 months old. She was hit by a car and her previous owners could not afford the surgery to fix her broken hip. Her previous family really did love her. They just didn't have the money for her medical care. They were going to put her to sleep, and the whole family was very upset. I offered to adopt her and they were very thrilled and thankful.
So I adopted her. She had a broken femoral head which had to be removed, and also a spinal fracture which required no treatment. She lived 13 1/2 years of running, jumping, the most energetic and happy dog ever. She was part lab, part shepherd. She loved her back yard, barking at anything, and her toys. She hated her harness and the car.
It was not possible to be sad and down around Greta. Her happiness and spirit was very contagious. If you were having a hard day, she could turn it around in a second. Her gift as a companion was her never-ending joy for life.
She was wide open during the day, but once the sun was down, she was out and slept like a rock at the foot of the bed. She had the greatest life up until the her sudden death caused by a bleeding splenic tumor. This house is so quiet now without her trotting around and barking and dropping her bones everywhere. Greta will never be forgotten!!
