Leonidas McLane, Mary Hardin McLane (1842-1851), and Josephine Wilson McLane (1842-1889) were the only interments with that surname on their markers at Oak Hill Cemetery during the 19th Century, as recorded in "Early Tombstone Record of Talladega County, Alabama", c. 1973 by Carolyn Lane Luttrell. Only one, Leonidas, lacks a memorial with headstone photo here. "Talladega County, Alabama Tombstone Inscriptions of All Known Cemeteries 1700's to 1987", Vol. II, c. 1990 by Joseph W. & Francis S. Upchurch, also listed the grave of Leonidas McLane, but cited the Luttrell compilation as a reference. The headstone was not seen by them during their survey in 1987.

However, there are two cast-iron grave covers of unidentifiable interments which appear to be within the Wm. L. McLane burial lot, as identified in the cemetery plat excerpt and depicted in the photograph. Although they lay side-by-side with the marble slab of Mary Hardin McLane, both of their name plates have been lost. An "Unknown Graves" memorial with headstone photo was previously created for them. An indicator of the age of these grave markers is a "cockle-shell" cast-iron grave cover patented by Joseph R. Abrams of Greenville, Alabama, in 1873. These could be the graves of William and Elizabeth McLane who died in 1872 and 1881, respectively, and whom several family trees have interred here.
