Maurice E. Curran, 88, of Chariton, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 of congestive heart failure at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. He had been a resident of the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center since 1998. Funeral services will be 1 pm Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.
He was born in Russell and farmed in the Russell and Lucas County areas. In 1945 he built along with his brother, C. D. Curran, the Russell Sale Barn in Russell and worked in the business until retiring in 1962. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chariton.
He is survived by two sons, Jim Curran of Chariton and Gene Curran of Russell; four daughters: Diana Wolf of Rock Island, Ill., Mary Jo Emerson of Moline, Ill., Rita Stanforth of Davenport, and Lucy Smith of Ormond Beach, Fla; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister; Charlotte McCarty Lahart of Albia.
He was preceded in death by his [daughter Carolyn Curran, 1970], wife, Lucille Kelleher Curran, who died July 10, 1995; his parents; one grand-daughter, Jodi Emerson.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. A rosary will be recited at 8 pm, Tuesday evening.
