Stella Elizabeth Klingler, 84

Stella Klingler, 84, passed away quietly on July 6, 2016 at Lantern Park Care Facility in Coralville, IA. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford with Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 am until service time at the church. Burial will be 1 pm on Monday, July 11 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Stella Klingler Memorial Fund.
Stella Elizabeth O'Connor was born March 7, 1932 in Sioux City, IA, daughter of John Byron & Elizabeth (Huls) O'Connor.
She graduated from Heelan Catholic High School in Sioux City, IA in 1950 and on June 7, 1950, married Dale Lee Booth. They resided in Cherokee, IA. Stella & Dale had been married just 4 1/2 short years when he and his father, Frank D. Booth were both killed in a tragic small airplane accident, in Woodbury County, IA. Stella & their daughter, Cindy, moved to Sioux City, IA to be near her parents and where she took a job as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She also served as a union steward for Communications Workers of America.
She married Keith U. Klingler on July 15, 1961. They resided in Sioux City until they moved to Iowa City in 1966. Keith passed away in 2002.
Stella was proud of her Irish descent. She enjoyed traveling, reading, flower gardening, playing the piano, cooking, crocheting and spending time with family.
She is a member of St. Mary's Church, Oxford and of the Iowa City Chapter of Telephone Pioneers.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her family includes her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" (Booth) Maher and fiancé Russell Portwood; Step-daughter Taren Klingler; granddaughter & her husband, Keista (Maher) & John Marshall Mason; grandson & his wife, Sean & Jackie (Morrow) Maher; granddaughter, Jessica Gatewood; great- grandchildren Reece, Branden & Stella Mason and Bryce Maher; her brother and sister-in-law, Patrick J. and Judy (Lorenzen) O'Connor, nieces and nephew, and her beloved cat, Baby.
Her father, mother and two husbands preceded her in death.
