Oct. 25, 1925 - March 14, 2017 Mrs. Alma Washington Foster a long life resident of Mobile, Alabama was born on October 11, 1925 in Mobile, Alabama, transitioned from this life on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at a local nursing home for her Heavenly Home.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Mobile, Alabama.

Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Joseph Washington and Ethel Williams Washington, her husband Dr. Maynard Vivian Foster, and her son Attorney Maynard Vivian Foster, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories Dr. Kendal Irwin Foster, daughter-in-law Mrs. Michelle Andrews Foster, three grandchildren, Kendal, Jr., Michael and Kelli Foster, two great-grand children, Kendal, III and Ava Grace and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and close friends.

Mrs. Foster was an educator at Ballard High School, Macon, Georgia from 1947 – 1949, Fairview School, Flint, Michigan from 1951 – 1952, Mobile County High School, Mobile, Alabama from 1952 – 1953, and a counselor at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama from 1971 until she retired in 1994. She was a 1947 graduate of Talladega College, Talladega, Alabama, in 1971 she earned her M.A. in Counseling and Guidance at the University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama, from 1985 – 1989 she was in the Auburn University/University of South Alabama Doctoral Program where she received her National Certification in Counseling (N.C.C.). Mrs. Foster was a world traveler and served on many Boards; Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society , the Mobile Museum of Art, the History Museum of Mobile, Symphony Concerts of Mobile, Y.W.C.A., Mobile Community Concerts, Mobile Association for Retarded Citizens, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (Life Member), Jack & Jill of America, Inc. (Charter Member), Great Books Discussion Group. She received many honors; Black Student Union Leadership Award, Image Award, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Woman of the Year and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Mrs. Foster was a member of many professional organizations; the American Association of Counseling and Development, International Transportation Analysis Association and the American Association of University Women. She received many certifications: National Board Certification, Family Systems, Practicum: Rational Emotive Therapy, International Transactional Analysis Association, 101 Examination Completed and MMPI Interpretation Skills.

Celebration of Mrs. Foster life will be Saturday March 25, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Franklin Street Baptist Church with visitation to begin at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Talladega College, Talladega, Alabama. Please sign the online guest book at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com
