Carolyn Jo Townsend, a longtime resident of Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the age of 69 years, 1 month, and 5 days. She was born February 18, 1948 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Clet Edward Griffith and Hazel Mae Peachee Griffith. When her mother married Joe Hill in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the family subsequently lived in different cities in Texas as well as New Orleans, Lousiana, where Carolyn attended public schools. During her high schools years she was raised by her Aunt Joan Morgan who had just lost her husband. Carolyn graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1966.
After graduation, Carolyn married Ken Townsend in Haltom City, TX on October 22, 1966. They shared more than 50 years of life and marriage together. They made their home in Texas and to this union one child was born, Tammy Jo. She worked several various jobs from department store cashier, bank check processor, to insurance company secretary, but her greatest job was being a wife and mother.
Carolyn was loved by many and will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Mae Griffith-Hill, her father, Clet Edward Griffith; brothers, Don Edward Griffith and Reggie William Hill.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ken, of the home; daughter, Tammy Jo Cunningham and husband Paul of Bedford, TX; granddaughter, Maegan Jo Cunningham of Dallas, TX; grandson, Jackson “Big J” Edward Cunningham and fiancé Caitlin Chandler of Houston, TX; special aunt, Joan Morgan; dearest cousins, Darrell Morgan and wife Beverly, all of Muskogee, OK; Brenda and Roy Martin of Tucson, AZ; sisters-in-law, Patricia Lunsford and husband Dolan of North Richland Hills, TX, Janet Henderson and husband Steve of Lubbock, TX; stepfather, Joe R Hill of Haltom City, TX; sister, Darlene Hamilton and husband Butch of Ft Worth, TX; along with other family members and many friends.
Funeral services honoring Carolyn’s life will be 10AM, Monday, March 27, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Steve Henderson and Mr. Lynn Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with Darrell Morgan, Butch Hamilton, Mike Tate, Jackson Cunningham, Brent Morgan, and Eric Lunsford serving as pallbearers.
