1943 ~ 2017
Elaine (Stuart) Beck emerged victorious from her battle with Alzheimer's disease on March 22, 2017.

Elaine was born on September 21, 1943 in Salt Lake City to Glen Henry and Ansley Alice (Hughes) Stuart and grew up in Sandy. In her youth, she loved music and math and avidly pursued her hobbies of playing piano, writing poetry, and sewing. After graduating from Jordan High School she briefly attended Utah State University before transferring to the University of Utah where she met the man who would become her partner in life.

Elaine was married to Michael (Mike) E. Beck in the Salt Lake Temple on December 3, 1964. They both graduated with degrees in mathematics the following year and found jobs together as engineers at Boeing in Seattle.

Elaine left work to become a stay at home mom and loved her time with her children. She focused on keeping life running smoothly for the family as they moved many times across the country, but also found opportunities to pop back into the workforce to pursue several interesting mini careers. In New York, she apprenticed with a renowned piano teacher and later taught piano in Salt Lake and Texas. When her kids were all in school, she went back to work as a computer programmer and demonstrated the value of a flexible work schedule. Later, as an empty nester, she implemented a new system in VA hospitals across the country and helped establish an employment resource center in a local university in Texas.

Elaine was active in the LDS church and utilized her talents in such challenging callings as stake relief society president in Miami and ward relief society president in Paris, both requiring excellent communication skills due to language barriers, but she was happiest when working with the young women.

In the early 1990s, Elaine was diagnosed with scleraderma, a challenge she met with the same grace and grit with which she had always approached life. She managed her disease so well that most people were unaware of her issues and later went on to be the leader of a local support group in Texas and board member for the state organization.

Most of all, Elaine will be remembered for her easy smile, quick wit, willingness to listen, and quiet determination.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband Mike. She is survived by her four children Michele, Philip (Jennifer), Matthew (Chelly), and Scott (Alyssa) and her twelve grandchildren: Alexander (McKenna), Erin, Devin, Stuart, Kamden, Gabriella, Joshua, Theo, Rylie, Jason, Madeleine, and Marcus. She is also preceded in death by her parents and survived by her brothers Roy, Richard, and Jay.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 Bengal Boulevard (7800 south).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Elaine to the Scleraderma Foundation.
