Agnes Betz Bryan, 88, of Palatka, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Putnam Community Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Heron Lake, Minn., and had moved to Putnam County as a small child. She had formerly lived in Carraway and had lived in Palatka for most of her life. She was a graduate of Mellon High School in Palatka. In the 1920s, she helped her parents operate the Five Points Grocery at Palm and Silver Lake Drive where she had to stand on a Coca-Cola crate to operate the cash register. She later helped her grandmother operate the Cedar Lane Dairy on South Palm Avenue. She was a longtime member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Carraway where she had served as song leader for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Bryan.
Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, James Milton Bryan and Robert Wayne and Jean Bryan, all of Palatka; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Bryan-Hinton and husband Fred Hinton of Florahome; six grandchildren, Melissa Bryan Parsons of Palatka, Stacy Dawn Bryan of San Mateo, Rocky Tyrone Scofield of Florahome, Robert Wayne Bryan Jr. of Jacksonville, Jason Wade Bryan and Jamie Ann Bryan, both of Palatka; and three great-grandchildren, Justin Edward Bryan, Cody James Bryan and Taylor Reed Parsons.
Funeral services and Video Tribute will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka with Pastor Alvin Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Cemetery, Green Cove Springs. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Masters Funeral Home of Palatka, a ministry of the Masters family since 1953, is in charge of arrangements.
