Thomas Floyd King Sr., age 73, of Kings Mountain, passed away at his home on April 12, 2017. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Ellis King and Maude Jolly King. He was also preceded in death by sister Barbara King and brothers David King and Jimmy King.

Tommy was known for his dedication and service for the Boy Scouts of America. He has been involved with the Kings Mountain Rescue Squad from 1959 – 1976; a Junior Policemen Leader from 1973 -1975 and a volunteer fireman for the Kings Mountain Fire Department for 20 years. He also taught American Red Cross First Aid taught firearms training; was a member of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team for Cleveland and Gaston Counties and was Region C Magistrate of the Year. His most significant contributions to the community came in his work with the Boy Scouts of America beginning when he joined the Scouts in 1954. He became Assistant Scoutmaster at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in 1978 and Scoutmaster in 1982 and served in that capacity for 15 years. He served on the Boy Scout Committee Piedmont Council for 20 years; a Boy Scout Council Explorer for 15 years and Bud Schiele Boy Scout Camp Master for 10 years. He was the recipient of many awards including Young Man of the Year Award; Silver Beaver Award; Spurgeon Award; Scoutmaster of the Year Award; Doctor of Commissioner Science Scouting Certification and Volunteer Fireman of the Year Award. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend.
