Al's adoptive mom died in 1942, and his adoptive father remarried in 1945. Al moved to Detroit when he was age 15 or so, and may have lived with relatives there- someone named Lillie (Pachetti) Fantauzzo signed for him to get married in Indiana in 1950. Al had 4 children with his first wife, and gave them up when they divorced in 1960. He remarried in 1965 and had 3 more children with his second wife.
Al joined the Army during the Korean War, signing up with his brother-in-law, Glenn Meyers. Glenn died in North Korea in 1951, and Al was discharged after getting into a fight.
Al was arrested for breaking and entering in Michigan in 1954 and spent some time in jail. At some point, he got involved with the mob, and was trained as a safe cracker; he took the blame and served time for someone else's crime, according to the family.
Al lived in California (going by the name of Joseph), as well as Missouri and Nebraska- where he got in a fight and was hit in the head with a chair (after he had pulled a gun on his assailant). He went into a coma, and died 2 days later.
