Departed this life January 27, 2007, Deacon Lafayette Meekins Jr., formerly of 1125 N. 27th St.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Deaconess Mary E. Meekins; two sons, Byron and Alan Meekins (Marcia); three daughters, Olivia Toatley (David), Marsha Meekins Cheatham (Davy), and Denise Williams (Phillip); 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Sr. (Alice), Vincent Sr. (Gladys), and Richard Meekins Sr.; a host of nieces and nephews; one aunt, Violet Lee; stepmother-in-law, Christine Blocker; one stepgrandson, two step-great-granddaughters, a host of other relatives and friends.

Remains rested at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains laid in state on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 12 noon at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1127 N. 28th St., where funeral services were held on Saturday at 1 p.m. Rev. Dr. Sylvester Smith officiated. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Baptist Church Building Fund, 1127 N. 28th St., Richmond, VA 23223.
