Doramae Norr Michael, 96, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 in Denver, Colorado at the home of her daughter, Susan Rhea Lawson. Doramae was born April 6, 1921 in Logan, Utah to Lorenzo and Verna Reese Norr. Her roots in Brigham City are deep. Grandfather David Reese was the benefactor of Reese Pioneer Park. He was the first Marshall of Brigham City, and a friend to the Indian people. Her heritage included many famous people. Doramae grew up during the depression, often referring to the hardships they endured.
She worked as a nurse during WW II at Bushnell General Military hospital. She was also a waitress at Burt's Cafe in Brigham, and at the Bluebird Cafe in Logan.
Doramae married George H. Michael in 1946 after meeting on a blind date. They were happily married for 70 years. She was a beautiful seamstress, sewing her children school clothes, a daughter's wedding dress, and great grandchildren blessing outfits. She could crochet and knit. We always looked forward to her bottled Brigham City peaches, pears, cherries, and pickles. She was a wonderful cook, even hand grinding wheat to make homemade bread. A published author of poetry, a book, and other works, she was also an artist. She made quilts and afghans for her children, and others, staying busy with her many talents.
A member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she remained a visiting teacher until the age of 91. Some positions she held were Relief Society President, Counselor, Ward Camp Director (at 60 years of age) and Ward Librarian. She and her husband served two missions for the LDS Church: one in Thunder Bay, Canada and another in Kane, Pennsylvania. During the course of her husband's line of work, they were able to reside in many States, as well as Saudi Arabia.
Doramae was loved by many for her generous spirit and love of her faith. She received letters and calls from lifetime friends, well into her 90's.
She is survived by her brother, James (Beth) Norr of Brigham City, UT, and her five children: Carol (Harley)Walker, Clinton, UT; Steve Michael, Flower Mound, TX; Ron Michael, Cedar City, UT; Scott (Sharon) Michael, Idaho Falls, ID; and Susan (Dwight) Lawson, Denver, CO.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City Mountain View Ward, 105 Fishburn Dr., Brigham City, UT. A viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
