Alice Hurtgen, age 93, of Spring Valley died Monday, May 1, 2017 at Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 4 from 5-7 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.

Burial will be in Gilman Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.

Alice was born May 21, 1923 to Alfred and Almeda (Eid) Blegen in River Falls, Wisconsin. She was baptized at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls and confirmed at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley where she has been an active and dedicated member.
At the age of 6, her family moved to a farm in Gilman Township. Alice attended Locust Grove Country School and graduated from Spring Valley High School with the Class of 1941. Prior to marriage she worked at Valley Café and the railroad station in Spring Valley. On June 12, 1945 Alice married Osborne ‘Ossie’ Hurtgen at the Lutheran Parsonage in Spring Valley. She was a secretary at Spring Valley High School from 1970-1984.
Alice loved music. She played the piano and organ and learned to play ‘by ear’. She loved tending to her flower gardens and spending time with family. She enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for holidays and birthdays.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include her children: Larry (Diane) Hurtgen of Spring Valley; Linda (Donald) Grabrick of Woodville; daughter-in-law Judy Hurtgen of Hudson; grandchildren: Alisa (Joe) Raehsler; Christopher (Barbara) Hurtgen; Julie (Rick) Scharlau; Valerie (Tim) Wood; Clinton Duval; Danica (A.J.) Bonine; and Derek Duval (Jordan); 9 great-grandchildren: Brittany, Katie, & Stephanie Raehsler; Sarah and David Hurtgen; Brandon and Justin Scharlau; Tristan and Riley Wood; sister Eloise Adank of Winona, MN; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Osborne; son Kent; brothers: Minnerd, Raymond, Arnold, and Elroy Blegen; sisters: Helen Knutson, Esther Von Haden, Evaline Bender, Ardis Roth, and infant sister Ardine.
Visitation on Thursday, May 4 from 5-7 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley and one hour prior to funeral service Friday at church.
Funeral service Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley with Rev D Peter Friberg officiating. Vocalist was Charlotte Wentlandt and organist was Risa Carlson.
Honorary bearers were Alice’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Tim Blegen, Bruce Von Haden, David Adank, Dean Adank, Kevin Adank, and James Tatzel.
Burial in Gilman Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.
