Ruth Schooler wasn't given a middle name. She was born to George Edward and Carrie Vird Etherton Schooler. She was one of seven children. She married James Lee Hammons on Sept. 8. 1912 in Spickard, Grundy Co., MO. Together they had eight children. All but their youngest lived to adulthood.
When their oldest son, Jim died in 1940, they took me,his daughter, Barbara Ruth into their home and raised me as their own. My mother, Alice, loved Ruth and since she could barely support herself, let alone a child, she agreed to this. My grandmother was a wonderful mother to me in all ways.
When just a girl, she won a beauty contest. Her prize was a piano which she learned to play by ear. She crocheted beautifully, was a wonderful cook and kept a warm, clean house.
After 35 years of marriage, she and Lee divorced. I always thought they still loved each other...they just couldn't live together. Some years later, she remarried.
She was a 3rd cousin, three times removed to Samuel Clemens, ie. Mark Twain.
She always said she wanted to die in her sleep. She did.

Your Mother is Always with You....She's the whisper of the leaves when you walk down the street, she's the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, and perfume she wore. She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well, she's your breath in the air on a cold winter day. She's the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep...the colors of the rainbow...she is Christmas morning.
Your mother lives inside your laughter and she is crystallized in every tear you shed. A mother shows every emotion: happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow,...and all the while, hopes and prays you will only know the good feelings of life. She is the place you came from, your first home, and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate you. Not time...not space...or even death. (author unknown)

My children adored her and though they were young when she passed so many years ago, they still remember her with love. She was their 'Grandma Ice Cream.'

A MOM IS THE ONE
RIGHT FROM THE START
TO TELL YOU YOU'RE SPECIAL
AND DEAR TO HER HEART
A MOM IS THE ONE
WHO'S SO WILLING TO SHARE
TO HELP WITH YOUR PROBLEMS
TO LOVE AND TO CARE
A MOM IS THE ONE
IN GOOD TIMES OR BAD
IS THE CLOSEST AND BEST FRIEND
YOU'VE EVER HAD.....

Darn it, Mom! I miss you so much.
