Betty married Charles August Rausch Jr on August 9, 1941, in Baltimore. They moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1948 and lived there until Charles passed away October 8, 2011. Her parents and sister, Ellen Langdon, also preceded her in death.
Betty graduated in 1940 from Goucher College and also studied at the University of Maryland and Cornell University. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. In Charlottesville, Betty taught at Belfield School for a number of years. She was also a substitute teacher at Lane High School. While living in Maryland, she worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, the Maryland Department of Health, and the Baltimore Life Insurance Company. Over the years she participated in a number of organizations, including the American Association of University Women, PTA, and Girl Scouts. She was also one of the initial volunteer dispatchers for the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad.
She is survived by three children, Col. Vincent L Rausch (Diane) of Williamsburg, Virginia, Lt Col Arnold C Rausch (Renee) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Charlaine D Rausch Nordstrom (Earl) of Chardon, Ohio. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brian Rausch of Cypress, Texas, Stephanie Rausch Marquart of Augusta, Missouri, Julia Rausch Lemaster of Casper, Wyoming, Randy Nordstrom of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dale Nordstrom of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jay Nordstrom of Chardon, Ohio, and several great-grandchildren.Betty also had two step-grandchildren, Christina Smith of Louisiana and Daniel Bertrand of Virginia.
