Agnes Asmussen, 85, of Lake Forest died unexpectedly at home on May 10.

Born June 11, 1931, to Michael and Suzanne Vasilko in New Brighton, PA.

Agnes was a loving mother to her five sons Roy M. (Vilaiwan), David (Tracy), James (Simone), Douglas (Kristine), and D. Marc (Eileen); and devoted grandmother to her thirteen grandchildren, Roy W. and Claire, Christopher and Jennifer, Eric, Caroline and Emily, Stephanie, Kathleen, and Thomas, and Ryan, Brigid, and Tyler.

She is also survived by her sisters Susan Vasilko and Helen (Richard) Beckner.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband J. Roy, and siblings George, Michael, and Ann.

Agnes selflessly devoted her entire life to addressing the needs of others.

Agnes served as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force and then came to Chicago to earn a bachelor's of science degree in nursing from Loyola University Chicago.

She worked as a registered nurse in Chicago where she met her husband and settled in the Chicago area to raise a family.

Agnes was an avid gardener and a renowned cook to those fortunate enough to visit her kitchen.

First and foremost, her purpose and passion were caring for those closest to her, including caring for her eldest sister Susan suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.

A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Monday, May 15 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Ave, Lake Forest.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 16 at the Church of St. Mary, Lake Forest, followed by interment at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines.
