Wenzel S. Knier Jr., age 77, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday morning, May 12, 2017 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Wenzel was born on January 9, 1940 in the town of Rockland, Manitowoc County. He was the son of the late Wenzel M. and Josephine Krepline Knier. Wenzel was a graduate of St. Gregory High School in St. Nazianz. He was employed at the Brillion Iron Works until retiring in 1994 due to multiple sclerosis. On March 3, 1962 he married Diane E. Kiehn at Rockwood Ev. Lutheran Church. Wenzel enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was a member of Rockwood Ev. Lutheran Church in Rockwood where he taught Sunday School and served on the church council.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Diane; three children: Steven Knier and fiancée Cathy Zigmunt, Mishicot; Brian (Julia) Knier, Oak Park, IL; Karen Knier, Chicago, IL; one granddaughter: Isabel Knier; two brothers: Roger Knier, Manitowoc; Randy (Cindy) Knier, Valders; one sister: Kathleen (Tom) Schroeder, Greenleaf; two brothers-in-law: Charles Kiehn, Brillion; Bill (Barb) Kiehn, Buffalo Grove, IL; his aunt: Veronica Wagner; a nephews, niece, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents: Wenzel M. and Josephine Knier; sister-in-law: Eileen Knier; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Edwin and Mabel Kiehn.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Rockwood Ev. Lutheran Church, 5805 County Road R, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Bruce Schwark. Cremation will follow at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of the cremated remains to take place at Knollwood Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at Rockwood Ev. Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
