Knier, Wenzel Matthew (Aug. 2, 1914-Jan. 5, 2002 –husband of Josephine Krepline [married June 17, 1939 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of Joseph Knier and Anna Meyer –born Town of Eaton –farmer in Town of Eaton –on March 17, 1950 purchased from his widowed father the 80 acre farm at 6834 Niles Road in Section 22, Town of Eaton –on Jan. 29, 1975 Wenzel sold this farm to the Salvatorian Fathers –the farm had been in Knier Family ownership since Aug. 1, 1865 –on March 20, 1953 inherited from his father the 80 acres of the E1/2 of the NW1/4 of Section 27, Town of Eaton –once the original Knier farmstead was sold to the Salvatorian Fathers in 1975, Wenzel had a house built on these 80 acres at 20617 County C –Wenzel’s wife Josephine died here on April 23, 1992 –on Dec. 4, 1995 Wenzel sold most of the land from these 80 to three of his sons but kept ownership of the house at 20617 County C –on Oct. 13, 1997 sold this lot with house to Brian and Shari Riesterer –died from “pneumonia –dementia”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 5, Row 10, Lot 5] [marriage record Manitowoc 29-25] [death record Manitowoc 108-277]

Wenzel M. Knier, age 87, a resident of Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center and formerly of rural St. Nazianz, died on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002 at the center.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Cyril Dickrell with burial on Wednesday at the church cemetery.

Wenzel was born on Aug. 2, 1914 in Manitowoc County, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Meyer Knier. He was educated in the Eaton schools. Wenzel married the former Josephine Krepline on June 17, 1939 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. She preceded him in death on April 23, 1992. He farmed in the town of Eaton until his retirement in 1975. Wenzel was also employed by the town of Eaton for many years.

Survivors include four children and their spouses: Wenzel and Diane Knier, Manitowoc; Roger and Eileen Knier, Manitowoc; Randall and Cindi Knier, Valders; and Kathleen and Thomas Schroeder, Greenleaf; five grandchildren, Steven and special friend Kathy Zigmunt, Brian and Julia Knier, Karen Knier, Gregory and Dawn Knier, Jessica Knier and special friend Kevin; one great granddaughter Isabel Knier; one sister, Veronica Wagner, St. Nazianz; one brother-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Joseph and Adahlia Dietrich, Reedsville; Loretta Krepline, Reedsville; Shirley Krepline, Manitowoc; and Betty Knier, Sheboygan. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
