HOWARD, THE REV. TIMOTHYThe Rev. Timothy Howard, age 75, of Waterbury, CT became absent from the body and present with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shelton, CT. A very special gift of God, Timothy was born on July 5, 1941, the ninth of twelve children born to the late Eugene and Sallie Mae Howard in New Zion, South Carolina. Timothy graduated from Walker Gamble High school in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned to Connecticut where he has lived and served for most of his adult life. As an itinerant Elder in the A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. Howard served for more than forty years serving pastorates in North Carolina, New Jersey and Connecticut. His last appointment was as Presiding Elder of The Hartford District of the New England Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church, a post that he held until his retirement in October, 2016. He was a very loving, committed and effective leader and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Rev. Howard leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories with his wife, Mary L. Howard; children, Timothy Howard, Jr. and Tamira Howard-Bacote (Derek) of Kissimmee, FL; Todd Eugene Howard of Avenelle, NJ; twenty-one grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He is survived by siblings: Virginia Bartley, Carrie Reed and Elizabeth Howard of CT; Minnie Collins of PA; Edith Burgess and Vernal (Helen) Howard of SC. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children and many friends.Services for Rev. Howard will take place on Friday, February 10, 2017 at The Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church; 20151 Main Street, Hartford, CT. Viewing and Calling Hours will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. The Service of Triumph will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Terry L. Jones, Sr., Presiding Elder/Pastor, presiding. The Eulogist will be Bishop Dennis V. Procter. Burial will take place at The State of Connecticut Veterans' Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT, at 1:30 p.m. Following the interment, the family will receive friends at Cross Street AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rev Howard's name may be made to the Metropolitan AME Zion Church (Building/Expansion Fund) and may be sent to: P.O. Box 570, Hartford, CT 06140.
