DIES INSTANTLY OF BROKEN NECK DOCTOR REPORTS.

Traveling Alone At Time Car Leaves Road and Strikes Culvert

Donald Francis Gase, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil M. Gase, 515 W. Fremont Street, was killed instantly Thursday, July 26, 1956, 7:25 p.m. in a one-car accident on U. S. Route 23, seven miles south of Perrysburg.

The Fostoria youth, a clerk at the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Company, was traveling north on the federal route when he lost control of his 1956 model car. It ran off the west side of the highway and crashed head-on into a culvert over a private driveway.

Due to a safety device on the doors of the car, a crow bar had to be used to remove the body from the wreckage. Patrolman Max West, Perrysburg post of the Ohio State Patrol, said two safety belts were found in the trunk of the car.

Dr. Roger Peatree, Wood county deputy coroner, said death was caused by a broken neck.

The front of the car was demolished and the spare tire was torn loose in the trunk and was found in the back seat, the officer said.

He was born in Fostoria October 15, 1938, the son of Virgil M. and Matilda (Hoepf) Gase and is survived by his parents; three brothers, Robert J. Gase, Carey, George C. Gase and William E. Gase, both of Fostoria; four sisters, Sister Mary Raymond (Virginia)- Order of St Francis, Tiffin, and Kathleen Ann, Elizabeth L. and Mary Catherine Gase, all at home; and his paternal grandfather, George Gase, Carey. A sister preceeded him in death.

He was a member of St. Wendelin church where services will be held Monday, 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at the Foos-Sullivan Funeral Home, Sunday, 8 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after Saturday (time illegible on photocopy of obituary).
