Archibald died August 17, 1893 in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa of Paralysis he was buried in Riverside Cemetery on August 20, 1893. There is no stone in the cemetery for him. Archibald lived in Iowa for the last 15 years of his life. On July 1, 1846, Archibald married Eliza Tate in Knox County Illinois. Eliza died in 1911 and is buried in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield township, Knox County, Nebraska. Archibald and Eliza had two children Edward David Gamel and William P. Gamel
