Born in Beaumont, Texas Anita attended local schools and graduated from Rice Institute in Houston. After graduation, she worked as a reporter for the Beaumont Journal for six years.
In February of 1952 she married to Mitchell Lekas of Oakland, California. They had three children, Dr. John C. Lekas, Jim Lekas, and Tina Lekas Miller.
She was fortunate enough to have traveled all over the world with her husband who was a geologist and ran a company called Geokinetics.
She was survived by her husband; her children; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and was expecting her first great grandson; and her sister, Evangeline George.
