CRISFIELD — Hammond R. Betts Jr., 48, of Crisfield died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield after suffering a massive heart attack at his home.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Hammond R. Sr. and Kathryn Nelson Betts.
He retired as a shop foreman with the Somerset County Roads Department in 1998. He was an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Lynn Betts of Crisfield; two sons, Hammond R. "Butchie" Betts III of Baltimore and Charles "Chuckie" Betts of Crisfield; a daughter, Myra Kay Betts of Crisfield; four sisters, Rebecca Fischer and Marion Sue Tyler of Fruitland, Lou Ann Brown of Delmar and Rona Faye Betts of Stockton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Nicole Betts, in 1990; and a sister, Deborah Lynn Betts, in 1962.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Crisfield Church of God. The Rev. Philip Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hammond Betts Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o the Rev. Phillip Morris, Church of God, 134 Maryland Ave., Crisfield, Md. 21817.
Arrangements are being handled by Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
