Pell, my great grandfather, was the son of William Alexander Grant Arthur* (1822-1898) and Elisa Smith Arthur* (1823-1913).

He had five brothers and sisters: Francis John (1846-1920), Mary E (1847-1850), Robert W (1849-1906), Smith J (1852-1959) and Mary A (1859-1922).

He married Mary Ryan* (1862-1929), daughter of Matthew Ryan of Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY. They were married Feb. 25, 1884 in Winchendon, MA. and settled in East Rindge, NH. There Mary gave birth to the first seven of their twelve children: William (1885-1962), Margaret (1886-1930), Warren (1887-1974), Francis* (1888-1960), James* (1889-1973), Richard (1890-1971), Matthew (1892-1970).

In 1895 they relocated to Ticonderoga, NY where Pell was born. There the following were born to Mary and Pell: Daniel (1895-1960), Beatrice (1897-1930), Amelia Louise (1899-1920), Edward (1904-1982), Clarence Paul (1905-1981).

In the early 1880s Pell became employed in East Rindge, NH as a foreman for a family in the lumber business and a horse farm. Upon his return to Street Road Pell worked on the family farm as did his sons.
