Margie Hale

Margie passed away on February 20, 2007 at Seton Memorial Hospital in Austin, Texas after a long battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Laredo, Texas.

She was the oldest daughter of Wenceslao and Herminia Rodriguez, both of whom have preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Martin High School. She was a travel agent for over 20 years, starting first at the AAA Travel Agency in Laredo. It was there where she met her husband, Ron Hale Jr., then a young officer in the USAF, attending pilot training in Laredo. They married on July 14th, 1973 in Laredo. For the next 34 years, Margie was the inspiration and common sense to Ron. Her husband freely admits that with a smile. She would say about Ron that "he sure could fly an airplane, but he needed me as his co-pilot in all other things, especially driving a car."

Margie loved to travel and she did. The world was her playground. After living in Abilene and Carrollton, Texas for 24 years, they settled in Georgetown 10 years ago. Living close to her sister and helping to care for her father were two big highlights of living in central Texas.

Young in age, young in spirit, young in heart; Margie loved football, both the pro's and college. She loved the Cowboys, the Horns, the Fighting Irish and others, but loved the game even more. Margie loved parades. She never missed going to the State Fair of Texas and always stayed for the parade. She was full of life. When she got excited, people around her just got excited too. You had to smile or laugh when Margie was smiling and laughing.

Margie is a sister in Christ. She loved our Lord. She loved being with the Divine Mercy group at her church, which was St. Helen Catholic Church. She loved praying alone at all hours of day and night with the Adoration Family in the small Chapel at St. Helen. She was an inspiration to those in many nursing homes around the Georgetown area during her Wednesday visits. She helped bring love and kindness in both English and Spanish to all who would listen.

Margie was not a stranger to cancer. She battled it 5 times over 25 years, winning 4 times. Through all the hospital stays and surgeries, she seemed to entice those around her to be strong like her. She had a quiet, unassuming way of saying we can all be better.

Margie loved family. She had an innate sense of love and responsibility to them all. She was more like a sister and even mother to her two Aunts from Laredo. She was Aunt Margie to all of the family on Ron's (husband) side, inspiring them all to travel to Texas and learn Spanish. She was the sister of sisters to her most dearly beloved sister, Diana. They were inseparable friends. They loved the same things and they loved each other. She loved her brothers, Wence and Rafael, and their families. She had a uniquely special relationship with them both.

Margie is no longer with us in body, but she lives on in each of us whenever we love, laugh, pray to our Lord, or stop to help a fellow human being.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Hale of Georgetown; brothers, Wence Rodriguez, Jr. and wife Alicia of San Antonio and Rafael Rodriguez and wife Mary of Denver, Colorado; sister, Diana R. Kelbell of Georgetown; two "special aunts", Tina Chazarreta and husband Nava and Hortenica Marin all of Laredo; mother-in-law, Margaret M. Hale of Lacey, Washington; sisters-in-law, Sharon Heath of Lacey, Washington and Marci Zimmerman and husband Paul of Kasilof, Alaska; and a number of wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she loved dearly.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown with Father John Guzaldo officiating. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2007 at the U.S. Air Force Academy Catholic Chapel followed by a gravesite ceremony at the USAF Academy Cemetery near Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made in Margie's honor to: St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700 E. University, Georgetown, Texas 78626. [Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 2/23/2007.]
