Ruth Wegman Yost of Julesburg, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, July 18, at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home at the age of 89 years.
Ruth was born Feb. 18, 1921 at Beemer, Nebraska, to David and Anna Erb and moved to Chappell when she was 15, where she met and married Vernon Wegman on November 3, 1938. From this union, two children were born, Marilyn Louise and George David. Vernon and Ruth were married 42 years, when Vernon passed away in 1980.
On September 9, 1990, Ruth married Charles Yost and resided in Eureka Springs, Oklahoma for a short time, then moved back to Julesburg, Colorado. Charles passed away in February 2006.
During her working years, Ruth worked as a cook at the Sedgwick County Hospital, the Williamson Greenhouse, and helped her husband Vernon on the farm. Some of Ruth's greatest enjoyment was from her grandchildren. Other pleasures Ruth enjoyed were going camping with family and friends, flower and vegetable gardening, quilting and needle point, and doing crafts. Ruth was known for her good cooking and helping the older citizens of Sedgwick County.
Preceding her in death: her husbands, Vernon and Charles, parents, three sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include daughter Marilyn Smith and husband, Pete of Golden; son George Wegman and wife, Peggy of Julesburg; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 21, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Gerk Funeral Home in Holyoke, Colorado. Funeral services will be at the Julesburg United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with internment at the Ovid Cemetery.
