Walter Adkins, 78 years old, former New Castle city councilman, died Monday in Hazelhurst, Miss., where he and Mrs. Adkins had been visiting their grandson, Robert Adkins, who is in the armed services.
Adkins was an employee of the Chrysler corporation plant in New Castle for more than 30 years and also operated a grocery store on the south side. He was a member of the Church of God, was on the board of trustees for 20 years and chairman of the board for 10 years. He was also superintendent of the Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include the widow, Lela; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Smith; and a son, Malcolm.
