Walter Alden Emmons was born on Feb. 13, 1906 in Russell, Lawrence Co., Illinois. He was the fourth of eight known children born to William Alden Emmons (1875-1968) and Estella Lindsay (1874-1960).

Walter's parents married on Aug. 21, 1901 in Lawrenceville, Lawrence Co., IL and were married for about 59 years. Walter's father, William, was born in Lawrence County, his mother, Estella, in Crawford Co., IL. Both are buried in Lawrence County in the Emmons Cemetery

His father, William, was the son of Redman W. Emmons (1850-1890) and Dorinda Evaline Shinn (1849-1905). His mother, Dorinda, was the daughter of Amos Lindsay (1843-1889) and Mary Elizabeth Rogers (1832-1890).

On June 31, 1931, Walter married Ruth Isadora Tracy (1907-2002) in Lawrenceville, Lawrence Co., IL. She was the daughter of William "Will" Tracy (1871-1942) and Essie A. Seed (1876-1949). Will was 24, Essie just 16. Ruth's parents were married for almost 49 years and had three known children of which Ruth was their third.

Walter died on April 11, 1971 in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana at the age of 67. He is buried in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. His wife, Ruth, died on Jan. 25, 2002 in Mt. Carmel, Wabash Co., IL at the age of 95. She too, is buried in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery, next to her husband, Walter.
