He was stationed in Italy where he was a B24 Bombardier.
Mike received his undergraduate degree and his PhD. from the University of Minnesota.
In 1951, he moved to Lincoln where he taught and did research on plant diseases as a professor of plant pathology at the University of Nebraska and was the chairman of the Plant Pathology Department from 1964 to 1984.
He retired in 1988, but continued to do research until the age of 97, as he truly loved his work.
Mike was a proud and supportive husband of his wife's pioneering political career.
