A Terrible Tragedy

Mr. Leo Sargent of this city received diligence Monday of the death of his brother, E.M. Sargent, who fell a victim to the murderous frenzy of an insane man at Peru, Nebraska, on the 2rd. inst. A special of that date yo the St. Louis Globe Democrat gives the following particulars of the shocking occurrence.

A telegram has just been received, detailing a horrible tragic that occurred at the neighboring town of Peru this afternoon. An emigrant named Albert Clark, who came to Peru two days ago with his wife and five kids, and stopped over in town, was the principal actor in the tragedy, and his victims were his wife and one of the Peru's well-known citizens, both of whom are now dead, while Clark himself is lying at the point of death. He first cut his wife's throat with a pocket knife, and then took the shot gun and went out on the street. The first person he saw was E.M. Sargent, a well known harness maker, who was shot and instantly killed. The madman then took his pocket knife, which he had already slain his wife, and cut his throat. He is now lying at the point of death and will not live long. The supposition is that Clark was crazy, and had become impressed with the ideal that some one was following him with intent to do him injury. Peru is wild with excitement over the unfortunate affair. Mr. Sargent leaves a family and the five children of the murderer are homeless.
