Ray Yeackley was born March 7, 1919 in Milford, Nebr. Died Feb. 4 of Alzheimer's disease. Spouse: Evelyn Miller Yeackley. Parents: Fred and Lydia (Saltzman) Yeackley (deceased). Other survivors: Children - Ray & wife Jean of Wheeling, Ill.; Roger & wife Janet of Aurora, Colo.; Verla and husband Neil Hartzler; Loree & husband Charlie King of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren (Kari Blevins, Dan Yeackley, Jennifer Hartzler, Karla Harper, Andrea Acker, Lisa Lemmon); two great-grandchildren (Trey Blevins, Kyla Acker).
He was baptized at East Fairview Mennonite church, Milford, Nebr. After graduating from high school, Ray worked with his brother Orvin in a custom combining business and also helped his father with farming. During WWII Ray began a 3 1/2 year commitment as a conscientious objector in Civilian Peace Service (CPS) where he spent time in Denison, IA; Lapine,OR and Camino CA from 9-2-1941 to 1-31-1945. During this time with CPS, Ray worked in "conservation construction". On Jan 20, 1946 he married Evelyn Miller in Milford, Nebr. Ray was employed with Sears (3 years) and started his own farm and after that worked with International Harvester. While living in Nebraska their first three children were born. After the family moved to Colorado Springs in the fall of 1955, Ray began his career as a contract-installer for Sears and Crawford Door Company. Here their fourth child was born. Ray kept a diary over 64 years and recently spent time drawing and painting.
Funeral: Feb. 7 at Beth-El Mennonite Church, Colorado Springs.
Interment: Memorial Gardens.
