Born July 16, 1933 in Melrose, Clark County, IL, he was the son of Chester and Laura E. (Kenderdine) Culp. On August 13, 1956, he married Irene (Boyd) and she preceded him in death December 23, 1995.
Mr. Culp served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. He was foreman in the shipping department for Huss and Schlieper, Inc. in Decatur, IL; was a member of the Porterville Congregation Christian Church, Porterville, IL; member E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion, Robinson, IL. Pokie was an Avid Bowler and Bowled in several leagues in Macon County, IL. Additionally, he was a great fan of oval dirt track racing and co-owner of a stock car that raced primarily at Macon Speedway, Macon, IL.
Survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law, Cleon Culp, Willow Hill, IL, Leland “Neal” Culp, Robinson, IL, Delmar “Dee” and Jeanette Culp, Robinson, IL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ava M. “Preach” Seaney, Robinson, IL, Treva J. Baud, Robinson, IL, Mary G. and Doug Woods, Morganfield, KY, Francis “Fran” and Mike Dorn, Robinson, IL, sister-in-law, Rosalie Culp as well as many nieces and nephews and his best buddy “Smokey.”
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Marlin C. Culp, Lyle D. Culp, Lawrence “Larry” Culp, Lenn Dwain Culp, James T. Culp; sisters, Joy Mikeworth, Edith Patricia Culp, Donna Elizabeth Culp; sisters-in-law, Sheryl Culp, Hazel Culp; brothers-in-law, Robert “Bob” Seaney and Ray Dean Baud.
Twilight Funeral service will be Saturday July 15, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL with Pastor Leland Culp officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until time of service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Military Funeral Honors will be accorded at the Twilight Service. There will be a graveside committal service held Tuesday July 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Mound Cemetery, Hunt Township, Jasper County, IL.
