Nehemiah Beckwith was the first son of Henry Beckwith I and his wife, the widow Elizabeth Skinner Beckwith. He was born abt. 1675. *His only brother, Henry II, was born abt. 1678.

(note: Elizabeth Skinner's first husband, Thomas, is recorded as having died in 1675. Not likely that she married Henry Beckwith I, and gave birth to their first child in the same year her first husband died - research is needed)

Nehemiah and Henry's father, Henry Beckwith I, had arrived in colonial MD, from Virginia in 1669, for a land grant of 50 acres received from Lord Baltimore. **Descendants continue to research Henry I's place of birth. No documentation to prove if Henry was born in England or if he was born in Colonial Virginia.

Nehemiah, a planter, married Frances Taylor in July 12, 1712. He was a Quaker - source: Maryland Quaker (Friends) Records of Third Haven Meeting House (Tread Avon) Talbot County, MD. They had two children during their marriage. His daughter, Dorothy, was born in 1714; his daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1717.

The will of Henry Beckwith I, Nehemiah's father, was dated 17 August, 1717 and proved 27th of October 1717. Henry bequeathed Nehemiah two tracts of land called "Berry's Chance" and "Willmot's Choice" on Little Choptank River. And appointed Nehemiah sole executor of his will.

Nehemiah died in 1730. It is believed Nehemiah I was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery, also known as Beckwith Burying Grounds.

It is noted that Nehemiah's younger brother, Henry II, named a son Nehemiah and that name continued in the family for many generations.
