Herbert Lawrence Beckendorff, 93, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, July 28.

He was born July 21, 1924 in Katy, Texas the son of Benjamin and Pearl
Hagerman Beckendorff. He was a rice farmer in the Katy area for over 35
years and retired in 1993. He was the last of the Beckendorff pioneering
family of Katy. Throughout his life he raised cattle, quarter horses and
spotted donkeys. His true pride and joy was horse breeding. He was a member
of the American Quarter Horse Association for over 50 years. He was also a
member of the American Palomino Horse Association.

He is survived by his son Herbert Lee Beckendorff of Center Point;
granddaughters Erin Waller of Kerrville and Shelly Ingram of Comfort and two
great granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolina Holic Beckendorff and
several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Seydler-Hill
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 at the
funeral home. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Katy Magnolia
Cemetery in Katy, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Katy
First United Methodist Church.
