Ken Austin Cason, Sr., 82, husband of Cecile Marie (Fitzgerald) Cason of 92 Maury Mill Road, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Cason was born on June 24, 1935 in Staunton, a son of the late Crawford Cason and Hazel (Benson) Clatterbaugh.
Mr. Cason was a four year veteran of the United States Navy and retired from DuPont after 34 ½ years working as a sheet metal mechanic. After retirement he worked at Valley Vo-Tech, training future sheet metal mechanics and drove a school bus for Augusta County Schools as a route driver and for various sports teams. Mr. Cason was also a brick and block layer, as well as a carpenter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cason was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna M. Brooker; brother in law, Gene Tutwiler; step-siblings, Dennis Clatterbaugh, Betty Varner and husband Clyde, Doris Clatterbaugh, Dale Brown, and Robert “Bob” Brown.
Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-three years, is a son, Ken A. Cason, Jr. and wife Donna F. Cason of Verona; a daughter, Teresa C. Cason and wife Lynda Schepler of Millsboro, Delaware; a son-in-law, C.J. Brooker of New Bern, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Leah M. Flowers and husband Sean of New Bern, North Carolina, Laura C. Spicer and husband James Caleb of Dayton, Daniel J. Brooker and wife Catherine of Raleigh, North Carolina, Christina A. Foote and husband Trevor of Stuarts Draft and Steven A. Cason and wife Polly of Weyers Cave; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Peggy Tutwiler of Staunton, Betty Lou Wymer of Staunton and Linda Johnson of Stafford; step-siblings, Ricky Clatterbaugh of Stuarts Draft and James Clatterbaugh of Maryland, and Nancy Colvin and husband Ray of Staunton; aunt, Clara Howdyshell and husband Kermit of Staunton; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 in the Verona United Methodist Church by Reverend Bob Weeks and Reverend Jeff Allen.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be A.W. Miller, C.L. Miller, Scott Cline, Gary Tutwiler, Caleb Spicer, and Trevor Foote.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
