On, Thursday, August 3, 2017, a magnificent Montana morning, the heavens opened and called Bonnie Holman to be with her Lord and Savior. She died at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena with her husband by her side. Bonnie was born September 5, 1951 in Helena to Barney and Velma Spurlock. She was the eighth of nine children. Bonnie was educated in Helena. Upon graduation Bonnie entered Eastern Montana College in Billings to complete her education.
After college, Bonnie returned to Helena to work for Social and Rehabilitation Services as case manager, social worker, and finally, as a county director of human services for both Broadwater and Lewis and Clark counties. Having always been a person who loved people, spent her living serving and helping those people. This career path was a perfect fit for Bonnie. She worked for social and rehabilitation services for nearly 30 years before retiring. After retirement, Bonnie continued to volunteer and serve on the boards of West Mont, Farm in the Dell Foundation, Spring Meadow Resources, the Helena Chapter of the CASA program, foster care review committee for the tri-county area as well as “Christmas in the Country” a benefit craft show organized and worked by Bonnie.
Bonnie’s life was dedicated particularly to the developmentally disabled as well as abused and neglected children. If there was help to be had, most everyone knew they could come to Bonnie.
Bonnie had a large extended family to whom she was most dedicated, and loved each and every one of them dearly.
In 1983 Bonnie met the love of her life, KC Holman to whom she would marry a year later on April 14, 1984. Of this marriage, Bonnie would gain three children whom she considered her own and loved them all very much. Son, Adam McFarland, daughters: Stephanie Crowley, and Katey Fossum.
Bonnie also had five grandchildren, Kendra McFarland, Aurora and Todd Fossum, and August and Aiken Crowley. Bonnie also has two great granddaughters, Hadley May and Kaelyn Elizabeth Crowley whom she adored. She had many nieces and nephews, and was fondly known as “Aunt Bonj” and “Grandma Montana.” If you were ever to ask the young children in “Aunt Bonj’s” life, you would first learn of how fun of an aunt she was. Doing wild and crazy things that appealed to the youngsters. And, surely, they could not speak of her without saying she was their favorite aunt of all.
Bonnie also had a serious side of her consisting of tenderness and great compassion.
Besides Bonnie’s great affection for people of all walks of life, she also had a great appreciation for the rest of God’s creations, of all kinds. Some of Bonnie’s favorite activities were swimming, camping, softball, almost anything that included interaction with children and adults. Bonnie lived by the cliché, “The more the merrier.” Family gatherings were very important to Bonnie. An opportunity to get together with those she held most dear.
Bonnie had great love and affection for her Church family, and was quick to let others know what a blessing they were in her life.
Bonnie was blessed by many dear friends.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, KC Holman; her one remaining sister, Connie Mayer, who she loved immensely. She is also survived by her surrogate brothers and sisters; Bob (Carla) Kaufman, Gail (Jim) Miller, Russ (Kelli) Kaufman, Jerry (Trena) Kaufman, and Corine Kaufman. She is also survived by her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughters, as well as many, many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention.
Bonnie was proceeded in death by: her parents, sisters: JoAnn Kaufman, Shirley (Ford), and a very very special sister, whom lived with Bonnie and her husband for 25 years: Dodie Spurlock. Bonnie and her husband, KC, both loved Dodie unmeasurably, and Dodie them. Bonnie’s brothers, all of which proceeded her, were: Jerry, Bill, and Jim Spurlock. She was also proceeded in death by her half-sister, Ramona Durham.
One of Bonnie’s greatest wishes were that you were always kind to your fellow man; and when thinking of her, your heart would be full of joy and laughter, remembering the role she played in your life.
Services and reception will be held at Helena First Assembly of God on August 11 at 10am. Graveside services at Forestvale Cemetery with the family will follow the reception.
