Mrs. DeOrnellas died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of December 27, 2013. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Paul Powell officiating.

Lynn was born on June 11, 1934 in Waco, to the late Joe Bailey and Josephine Barron Byrd. After graduating from Mart, Texas High School, she attended Texas State College for Women, which is now known as Texas Woman's University. Home for a weekend visit, she went on a blind date with an Airman named Howard DeOrnellas who was stationed at Connelly Air Force Base in Waco. They married in 1953, and remained married for 58 years until his death in 2011.

Mrs. DeOrnellas was active in many organizations and had various hobbies. Her passion was genealogy, and she loved working with the local genealogy society. She also loved her adopted school, Baylor University. She was an Alumni-By-Choice and member of both the Alumni Association and the Baylor Bear Foundation. In 1972, she joined her husband working in the new company that he started in 1969, Universal Time Equipment Company. She retired in 1997 but was still a member of the Board of Directors at the time of her death.

After retiring, Lynn and Howard moved to Waco to be closer to their Baylor Bears before returning to Tyler in 2008.

Mrs. DeOrnellas was a Baptist, and had been a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Tyler, Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco, and most recently Patton Baptist Church near Waco.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Mrs. DeOrnellas is survived by a loving family including her daughter, Kathy DeOrnellas and her husband, Ron Plis of Sanger; son, Howard Kevin DeOrnellas and wife, Jacquelynne of Tyler; brother Larry Byrd and wife, Vida of Corsicana; one granddaughter, Erin Tran and husband, Sondi of San Jose, Calif.; and step grandson, Austen Wilabay; one great grandson, Dylan Tran; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Alliance of Northeast Texas, Inc., 211 Winchester Drive, Tyler, 75701, or to the Baylor Bear Foundation, 1500 South University Parks Drive, Waco, 76706.
