Wilda, LeRoy J. "Bounce"

LeRoy "Bounce" John Wilda, age 89, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2017 at Maritime Gardens, Manitowoc.

LeRoy was born on August 14, 1928 in Manitowoc, son of the late Ervin and Katheryn (Novak) Wilda. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1946. LeRoy served in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1949, he was stationed in Japan. On November 25, 1950 he married Jean Anne Duprey at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Throughout their married life, LeRoy and Jean enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed playing Soduko. LeRoy is on the Chiefs Hall of Fame, he was a 5' 10" 200 pound Fullback for the Chiefs. During High School (1943-1946) LeRoy was a Fullback, Defensive Linebacker and the Punter. He was selected to be the Team Captain, first team All-Conference, and was on the first North/South All Star Classic all during his senior year. LeRoy played for the Manitowoc Braves from 1948 until 1951, he was the teams second leading rusher in 1948 with 51 carries for 416 yards and 8 touchdowns. He was also the assistant coach for the Manitowoc County Chiefs from 1959 until 1961.

Survivors include his wife: Jean Wilda, Manitowoc; two sisters: Pat (Jim) Konop and their children: Lee, Rick (Laura), and Connie; Nancy (Jim) McDonnell and their children: Jamie (Karen) McDonnell and Scott (Julie) McDonnell; other relatives and friends also survive. LeRoy was also preceded in death by his parents: Ervin and Katheryn (Novak) Wilda and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Louis and Eleanor Duprey.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand (1416 Grand Avenue). Officiating the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Douglas LeCaptain. LeRoy will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand (1416 Grand Avenue) from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
