George H. Bessert, age 85, of 2115 Lexington Dr., Manitowoc, died on Saturday evening, March 27, 2010, at Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.

George was born on July 27, 1924, in Green Bay, son of the late Martin and Augusta (Janke) Bessert. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Geraldine Wolfert on April 19, 1952, in Manitowoc. George and Geraldine lived in Brillion for 14 years and then moved to Manitowoc. He worked for McMullen and Pitz for 16 years and then as a crane operator for the Manitowoc Company for 19 years. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife: Geraldine Bessert, Manitowoc; two sons and one daughter-in-law: David (Ellen) Hlinak; Tom Hlinak, Manitowoc; five grandchildren: Tammy Hlinak; Steven (Michelle) Hlinak; Mark (Sharon) Hlinak; Brenda Hyde; Diane Rice; four great-grandchildren: Kevin McKree, Ashley Hlinak, Ian Hlinak, Donovan Hlinak; one brother: Kenneth Bessert, Manitowoc; one sister: Diane Crowe, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law: Peggy Bessert, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law: Jerry Steffen, Menasha. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Leroy Bessert; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Marcella (William) Green and Florence Steffen.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Stephen Melso will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, 1500 Hwy 310, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
