Born July 24, 1940 in Streator she was the daughter of Andrew “Mitch” and Regina (Averweg) Harcharik. She married Francis “Pancho” Araujo on April 8, 1961. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1994.

She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Araujo Barton (Jay Durbin) of Streator; grandchildren, Andrew Barton of Streator, Mitchell Barton of Streator and Magdaleyna Barton of Aurora; sisters, Barbara (Clarence) Creamean of Streator and Mary Harcharik of Reston, Virginia; a brother, John Harcharik of Anacortes, Washington; nieces and nephews, Karyn (Gary) Rolfe of Maryville, Tennessee, Craig Creamean of Oak Brook Terrace, Daniel (Heather) Creamean of Winnetka, Jill (Robert) Rees of Portland, Oregon, Erica (Mike) Nenezick of Bothell, Washington and Andrea (Justin) Catron-Hoesch of Kirkland, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, David Harcharik.

Born and raised in Streator, she attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Streator High School Class of 1958.

Along with her husband, she operated RME Trucking for many years. She had also worked for Cullen Distributors and also ALM until her retirement.

She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. She was an active member of the Streator Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf and organizing functions with her many friends. She was also a member of the Streator Elk’s Club and the Knights of Columbus. Through the years she volunteered for the Streator Area United Way.
Linda was known for her charm, quick wit, fun spirit, and creative talent. She loved to sew, and she put her abilities to use by creating elaborate Halloween costumes for her daughter, nieces, nephews and grandchildren; donating time to make costumes for Engle Lane; and making keepsake dolls that were treasured by children and adults alike. Linda was a great cheerleader and a “sideline whooper” for many years as her daughter showed American Saddlebreds and her husband drove Hackney Ponies. She tackled and solved crossword puzzles with ease and knew the words to hundreds of songs and poems. She also enjoyed making lovely handmade cards for her family and friends. Linda tenderly cared for her elderly mother for many years sharing her home and providing comfort and love. Linda loved to throw a party. Whether it was hosting family holidays or gatherings for her friends, she enjoyed making invitations, party favors and decorations; planning delightful menus; and making sure everyone felt welcome. She brought so many of us together to celebrate the good times. She was loved by and will be missed by many.

Memorials may be directed to St. Vincent DePaul or the Guardian Angel Outreach Center.
