Joseph Bishop was son of John Bishop, grandson of Nelson Bishop, Great Grandson of Joseph Bishop.
Joseph was farmer, carpenter, horseman. In his later years he raised a Texas state record sized gourd. In his teens he road in the Cherokee Land Rush race in Oklahoma. He and his father won land as a result of their horsemanship.
He had a sucessful farm in Alberta from about 1910-1933.
The dry years of the early 1930s ruined his farming. According to some of my father's siblings, Joe had a dairy farm and horse farm. He would have about 65 horses at any one time. He also had successful wheat fields. In the early days, my father was the oldest child. He worked with is mother in the fields. He often only had turnips for lunch.
Come to think of it, that would be a better diet for me.
