David was still in Virginia on 16 May 1798 when he purchased 101 acres from his father and mother (Robert Rees and Sidney Lewis) via Frederick County, Virginia deed 25:512. On January 7, 1807 David and his wife, Sally, of Fairfield County, Ohio sold that same 101 acres in Virginia to Hugh Tate. This deed is the proof that General David Rees in Fairfield County, Ohio is the son of Robert Rees. The relationships were stated in the deeds. It would seem that he was in Fairfield County, Ohio by 1807 when he sold that land. Ohio Source Records page 138 lists him in the 1810 tax for Fairfield County, Ohio as David Riese. According to the Fairfield County, Ohio Partition records of David Rees Sr. Partition Book 6 page 183 1849 (and book 3 page 652 1848), his heirs were:
