The Rev. Bernard "Boniface" Bianco, former pastor of Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley, passed away July 20 in Trinidad, Colo. The Rev. Bianco celebrated his first Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad on June 1, 1947. His first missionary assignment was in Douglas, Wyo., followed by assignments to Glenrock, Hartsville and Wheatland, Wyo.,as pastor. Because he had a degree in romance languages, he was sent to the Southwest to work with Indians. For a time he served in the El Paso Diocese obtaining a master's degree in sociology and being assigned as chaplain at the federal corrections institution at La Tuna, Texas. He was then assigned as pastor of the Infant Jesus Parish in Hurley, where he served until heart trouble forced him to retirement and return to Colorado where he had family. In September 1966 while attending a funeral in Guernsey, Wyo., he was asked by the bishop to serve there for one month. He remained in Wyoming until his second retirement, five years ago. But the Rev. Bianco, who was having much trouble with his sight, stayed active by ministering to the sick and elderly at the Trinidad State Nursing Home where he celebrated daily Mass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree. The funeral was held July 25 at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment with rite of committal followed at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. Those wishing to do so may make contributions to the Trinidad Catholic Schools. Arrangements were under the direction of the Comi Funeral Home.
