He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.H. Van Vliet, where he had been confined for the past six weeks. He had been living Blackinton, MA, with his daughter, Mrs. Edward Jones for the last four years and in July came to Utica to visit Mrs. Van Vliet. He fell ill while here and passed away.
In Oldham, England, in 1858 he was married to Mary Bastow, who died four years ago.
He leaves two sons, James Platt of New York Mills and Thomas H. Platt of Utica; four daughters, Mrs. J.H. Van Vliet of Utica; Mrs. Edward Williams of North Pownal, VT; Mrs. Edward Jones of Blackinton, MA; Miss Mary Platt of Capron; eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
