Stanley Kenneth Morgan, 77, of rural Neoga, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family.

The funeral service honoring his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, 720 Monroe, Charleston, with Reverend James Larry Hayes officiating. Burial with military rites by the Charleston V.F.W. and Charleston American Legion will follow in Kickapoo Cemetery, rural Charleston. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the family.

Stanley was born March 4, 1940 in Coles County, Illinois, son of Robert LeRoy and Marian F. (Newman) Morgan. He married Janice Rose Hayes, August 16, 1960 at Charleston; she survives. Also surviving are their children: Cindy (Tony) Adair of Charleston, Ken Morgan of Mattoon, and Tony (Christine) Morgan of Mattoon. One brother: Ronnie Morgan of Arkansas; two sisters: Merna Gilbert of Charleston and Linda Gannaway of Windsor, as well as 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Stanley was a United States Marines Corps Veteran. He retired as an E-8 Master Gunnery Sergeant, after more than twenty years of meritorious service to our country. He later retired from Kraft as a Maintenance Engineer after 20 years. He held memberships in the NRA, Weekend Gold Miners Association, and enjoyed gold prospecting and using his metal detector to look for treasure.
