Mrs. Virginia V. George, 86, of Palmerton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of Merritt D. George for the last 66 years.
She was a garment worker for the former Scotty's Fashions, Kunkletown, and other area mills. Previously, she worked in her family's business, the former Fred Smale General Store, Kresgeville.
Born in Gilbert, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Mamie (Borger) Smale.
She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Palmerton, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Along with her husband, she was a longtime community volunteer for CACPAC, a local church action group.
During World War II, she worked at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, manufacturing artillery shells.
She loved to read, sew, cook and bake.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter Marie, wife of Dale Burger; two granddaughters, Dorian Toth and Adrienne, wife of William Gray; and a great-grandson Lucas.
She was also predeceased by a son Kevin; and five siblings, Arlington, Eva, Vane, Donald and Lillian.
