Merritt D. George, 90, of Palmerton died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, at Blue Mountain Health, Palmerton Campus. He was the husband of the late Virginia V. (Smale) George, who died in 2013.
Born in Palmerton, he was the son of the late Burton D. and Naomi (Eckhart) George. Merritt graduated from the S.S. Palmer High School, Class of 1943. He worked for both the NJ Zinc Co. and Carbonaire Inc. He also worked for Progressive Merchants in Lehighton. Merritt was a member of the Little Gap Grange for over 50 years as well as the PA State Grange. He taught Sunday school for 35 years. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and carpet weaving. Merritt was proud that at one time, he designed and built a ranch home all by himself.
Survivors: Daughter Marie and husband Dale Burger of Kunkletown; grandchildren Dorian Toth, Adrienne and husband William Gray; great-grandson Lucas. Merritt was predeceased by a son Kevin, and siblings Elizabeth Kreger and Samuel George.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, T.K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave, Palmerton. Calling hour 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
