Samuel J. George, 91, passed away Tuesday, June 17. He was the husband of the late Kathryn (Smoyer) George, who died in 1990.

Later in life, he worked as an insurance agent, from which he retired.

Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Burton and Naomi (Eckhart) George.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a life member at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Trachsville.

George was a Master of the Little Gap Grange; a member of the Palmerton American Legion Post; and a life member of the Patriots Order Sons of America, Washington Camp 446, the Palmerton and Bowmanstown Rod and Gun clubs and Towamensing Township Fire Company.

He was an avid bowler and an active member of the former Palmerton Exchange Club.

Surviving are a daughter Beverly, wife of Ricky Waibel; two grandchildren, Shelly, wife of Joseph Wonderly, and Ryan, and his wife, Melissa (Eckhart); three great-grandchildren, Jaclyn Wonderly and Peyton and Kaylin Waibel; and a brother Merritt.
He was also predeceased by a great-grandson, Colton Waibel; and a sister, Elizabeth Kreger.

Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Dr., Trachsville, with the Rev. Kathryn Foster officiating. Interment, church cemetery. Call 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the church.
