Mathew Barrett Local Miner Is Victim of Death
Mathew Barrett, miner of Grass Valley, who has lived here since 1915, passed away at the family home on Bank street yesterday following an illness that has kept him confined for several weeks.
Mathew Barrett was a native of St. Day, Cornwall, England, and came to this continent in 1889. He settled first in British Columbia, but came to Grass Valley in 1915, and obtained work in the local mines. He was known as a good miner, and had the esteem of his fellow workers and employers alike. His health began to fail some time ago, and during the past few weeks, his condition became serious.
Deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Barrett, and two children: Mrs. May Paul of Los Angeles and Llewellyn Barrett of San Francisco.
Mr. Barrett was a member of the Foresters of America and the Mine Workers Protective League.
Mr. Barrett’s funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist Church. Rev. Peter Ruf will conduct the service.
