Moroni was the son of William Clayton and Diantha Farr.

At the time of his birth, Moroni's father named his son "William Adrien Benoni Clayton", but the child was usually called "Moroni." He appears in the 1860 U.S. census and in his death record as "Moroni Clayton."

As an infant, Moroni fell into a fire and was burned severely on his head, face, and neck.

He died at 18 from a "cold and inflammation."
